Dr. David DeVault is on a mission to create automated conversational systems worth talking to. He is an expert in the design, implementation, and evaluation of spoken dialogue systems. His research has focused on providing dialogue systems with the ability to incrementally understand, predict, and respond to human speech in real-time, and to do so in a way that is robust to the inevitable uncertainties of communication. Since 2011, he has been a faculty member in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Southern California (USC). He has served as Principal Investigator on dialogue research projects sponsored by the National Science Foundation and the Army Research Office (ARO). He holds a Ph.D. from the Department of Computer Science at Rutgers University. He is the author of over 60 technical articles. For more, see his home page.
